Perspective

You know… life is all about our perspective.  I’ve found that most people tend to focus so much on the negative things in their lives rather than all the amazing blessings they have.  I’m not sure why this is true, but it certainly seems to be the norm from my experience.  Every now and then God just hits me with a good dose of healthy perspective.  He did that this morning for me.  I woke up to a very aching foot.  I don’t know what in the world I’ve done to it, but I woke up a few days ago injured.  I’ve decided I can’t afford another doctor visit so I’m just using all my years of sports related visits to the training room to rehab myself.  One of the things that heals is ice, and since the foot is a hard part of the body to directly ice, I’ve been doing so through soaking in ice water.  It’s cold man… I hate that first “step” into the bowl of ice water.  This morning I was icing my foot and doing my quiet time and then I popped on facebook.  I had a friend request from my good friend Ryan and right there on his wall was his latest passion… an organization called charity water.  You can learn more about them at www.charitywater.org.  Did you know that at this moment around a billion people don’t have clean water to drink?  That’s hard to fathom isn’t it.  As I looked at this website… it just hit me… man, I’ve got clean water to soak my foot in and there are a billion people in this world who don’t have clean water to drink.  God has blessed me beyond belief!  With such perspective there are to be two responses.  One, a heart of gratitude and thankfulness.  A non-complaining spirit and a joy filled existence.  Two, to take of my abundance and be a blessing to those who have not… to feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty and clothe the naked.  Jesus said in the book of Matthew, “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’”Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’  ”The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’”  God, thank You for a dose of perspective this morning… I need that periodically.  Please let me be a blessing to others from the blessings You have given me.
